Sunset Pointe History
Owner Pete Blohme (“Panini Pete”) has been fascinated with the art of cooking since he was just a teenager. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1986, worked on a cruise ship, and helped opened a restaurant chain in Alabama with his brother-in-law Bob Baumhower shortly thereafter. Pete also worked as Executive Chef at University of Alabama.
After studying and working in many restaurants over the years, Pete’s dream of opening his own restaurant came true, and Pete opened Panini Pete’s Cafe and Bakeshop in Fairhope, Alabama in February of 2006 and then went on to open Panini Pete’s in Mobile, Alabama in 2011.
Pete opened Sunset Pointe in 2014 at the Fly Creek Marina, to create his new vision of exquisite, delicately balanced and memorable food, in a warm, inviting atmosphere backed by one of the most amazing sunsets around.
Pete has made appearances on Food Network’s Diners Drive Ins and Dives, Guys Big Bite, and CMT’s Sweet Home Alabama and has toured the US and Canada with Guy Fieri and his Traveling Road Show. Pete hosted “Small Town Flavor” on YouTube in 2012 and continues to make special tv appearances and travels the world on tours. Pete is a founding member of “MESSLORDS”, visiting various Military bases where he, STRETCH, Gorilla, Boss Man cook for our Troops.
